How about a virtual tour of the temple of Epikourios Appollo through your mobile wearing special glasses? Can this sound overly ambitious and unrealistic, but this innovative project ventured the students of the B’ Arsakeio Lyceum Psychiko,  in cooperation with “Diazoma ” and the Young Entrepreneurs Association, under the entrepreneurship program ” Virtual Enterprise “.

As stated in the newspaper “Patris”, the director of  Entrepreneurship programs, of B’ Arsakeiou School Psychiko, Dimitra Chatziantonaki,  22 students of second grade of B’ Arsakeio School Psychiko decided to  ” adopt ” the temple of Epikourios Apollo and create a product with the name APPOLLO.

“The students created a virtual cultural company named EPEIKON (www. Epeikon.gr) and produced the title product APPOLLO (APP = APPlication APOLLON), which belongs to the collection of products under the name GRAECIAE MIRACULA ( WONDERS OF GREECE ), as they inspired by the uniqueness of the temple of Epikourios Appollo ” she  stressed in the newspaper “Patris” Ms. Chatziangelaki and added that the investigation made by the students found that the majority of people do not usually visit the archaeological monuments, unlike the foreigners who come from the other side of the world. They chose the temple of Epikourios Appollo , precisely because it is a monument neglected “.

According to the project, the students created a Virtual Cultural Enterprise named EPEIKON, which ” aims to promote the cultural heritage of Greeks and particularly the ancient monument of Epikourios Appollo ” as stated in www.epeikon.gr.

The product, which was created by the students, is innovative and headed APPOLLO (APPlication APPOLLON). It includes an application on the mobile phone, with precise modeling of the temple of Epikourios Appollo and presentation in its original format and cardboard glasses. According to the design, the device is incorporated in glasses and through the application will enable to the user to make virtual three-dimensional (virtual 3d) tour of the temple of Epikourios Appollo. Scientific supervision undertaken by the Emeritus Professor of Classical Archaeology  of University of Athens and associate of “Diazoma”, Vasilios Lambrinoudakis .

As she stated in the newspaper “Patris”, Ms. Chatziangelaki, the application will initially include two languages , Greek and English.

“Our goal, is to add, in the future, French and German. Within the tour you will see what points of interest will you focus on it, you see a card with information and simultaneously listen to and recorded. It is a very nice project, which requires a lot of work , but the children have shown great zeal ” pointed in the newspaper “Patris”.

The cost is particularly high , as they need specific assistance for the digital modeling of the temple, specialist for the implementation of mobile , glasses , etc., for this reason the students already organized a bazaar to raise money. The pioneering project is expected to be presented at a major event in the Book Arcade, then will hold a special event in municipality of Andritsaina – Krestena, while the weekend April 22-23 the students, of B’ Arsakeio  School Psychiko, will visit the temple of Epikourios Appollo. The revenue generated by the application will be given in charity  “Η Χαρά “.

Ms. Chatziangelaki analyzed, in the newspaper “Patris”, the threefold objective of the project, by referring to an effort that will have international dimensions and not be limited to local or national level, also well look forward to collaboration with foreign schools , whose students will visit the archaeological monument of Figaleias.

” Our vision is a social , cultural and economic. Our goal is, in cooperation with the “Diazoma”, to produce a product that will highlight and display our cultural heritage, be connected with the economic realities of our time , to be known around the world and attract cultural tourism. It also has an important social dimension , as our third goal is through our application to “virtually” know disabled people the temple of Epikourios Appollo, whom do not have the opportunity to visit the monument ” reported, Ms. Chatziangelaki, in the newspaper “Patris” .

As students emphasize in the newspaper “Patris”,  ” The main mission of our company (EP = The Epikourios Appollo , EIKON = images ) is the transmission of our culture to people who are unable to visit the monuments of the world. Invent additional ways, through technology, that people with disabilities be able to visit even the most distant monuments, to know, through digital reality, carrying them on the spot, while they are at home. That “believes” constitute and values of our company. With these “symbols” we aim to rescue the ancient Greek monuments over the centuries ” and complete the dictum of the writer Nikos Kazantzakis when he saw the temple of Epikourios Appollo : “And here the ancient art in surprising quiet, for a human path, to raise without gasping at the top … “.
